Install the AnyReplay Shopify App

Install the AnyReplay app for Shopify and switch on its app embed: no theme code to edit, masking on by default, Customer Privacy consent, and what it records.

The app adds AnyReplay to your storefront as an app embed: a switch in the theme editor rather than code in theme.liquid. Theme updates and theme switches do not remove it, and turning it off removes the recorder at once. It prints the same script as the script tag into the <head> of every storefront page.

Install and switch it on

  1. Install the app

Install AnyReplay Session Replay from the Shopify App Store. It asks for no access to your store's data, and opens in your Shopify admin once it is installed.

  2. Link your store

In the app, create a free AnyReplay account or sign in, then choose where the recordings go: a new project named after your store, or one you already have. The app puts the project key into your theme for you; there is nothing to copy.

  3. Switch on the app embed

Press Open theme editor. It opens App embeds with AnyReplay already switched on; press Save.

  4. Load your store

Open the storefront in a private window and browse a few pages. The app shows the first recording when it arrives, with a link to watch it in AnyReplay.

SettingValue

Mask form fieldsOn (the default)

Leave Project key empty: the app fills in the key of the project you linked, and updates it if you rotate the key. Type a key only to record into a different project. The embed also has Visitors recorded, from 5 to 100 percent; see sampling. Mask form fields is on by default, as in every AnyReplay SDK; turn it off to see what shoppers type. Passwords and payment card fields are masked whatever you choose; see masking.

What is recorded

Every page your theme renders: the home page, collections, product pages, search and the cart. Shopify's checkout does not run theme code, and its customer events pixels run in a sandbox that cannot see the page, so a recording ends where checkout begins. Nothing is recorded while you edit the theme: the embed prints nothing in the theme editor.

Turn on Wait for consent and the recorder waits until Shopify's Customer Privacy API says the visitor allowed analytics, from your store's own cookie banner or a consent app built on it. A visitor who declines is not recorded, and one who changes their mind later stops being recorded. See consent.

If nothing arrives

  • Check that the embed is switched on in the theme that is live, not only in a draft theme.
  • Open the app in your Shopify admin. It shows whether the store is linked, whether the embed is on in your live theme, and whether the recorder has loaded.
  • In the theme editor, the browser console warns when the store is not linked yet or a typed project key looks wrong.
  • If you linked a project that lists allowed domains, the app added your myshopify.com domain and your primary domain to it. A domain you add in Shopify later has to be added to the project too.
  • See no sessions for the rest.
