Getting started
Quick Start: Record Your First Session
Create an AnyReplay account and project, add the recording snippet to your site, and watch your first session in the dashboard in about five minutes.
This guide takes you from no account to a recorded session. It uses the script tag because it works on any website; if your app is built with a bundler, the npm package does the same thing.
Create an account
Sign up with an email address or with Google. A new account starts on the free plan: one project and 500 sessions a month, no card required.
Create a project
In the dashboard open Projects and choose New project. Give it a name, and under Allowed domains list the domains that will send recordings, one per line or comma-separated — for example
app.example.comandlocalhost. You can paste a full URL; only the domain is kept. A pattern like*.example.comcovers subdomains but notexample.comitself.Decide on form masking
The dialog has one switch, Mask what visitors type into form fields, on by default: every form value replays as asterisks. Turn it off and your snippet arrives with
maskAllInputs: false, so a replay shows what visitors typed. Passwords, one-time codes and card fields are never recorded either way. You can change it later on the setup page — it only changes the snippet the dashboard shows you, never the one already on your site.Copy the snippet
Every project has a setup page (Install the recorder) with the snippet already filled in with that project's key and your masking choice. Tabs offer the same thing as plain HTML, for Google Tag Manager, for Next.js, for React Native and as an npm install. The HTML version looks like this:
<script> (function (w, d) { w.anyreplay = w.anyreplay || function () { (w.anyreplay.q = w.anyreplay.q || []).push(arguments); }; var s = d.createElement('script'); s.async = 1; s.src = 'https://cdn.anyreplay.com/v1/ar.min.js?k=YOUR_PROJECT_KEY'; d.head.appendChild(s); })(window, document); anyreplay('init', { projectKey: 'YOUR_PROJECT_KEY', ingestUrl: 'https://in.anyreplay.com', // Stop recording after this many sessions in a calendar month. // maxSessionsPerMonth: 10000, // Form fields are masked: what visitors type replays as asterisks. // Passwords, one-time codes and card fields are masked either way. // Uncomment the first line to record what visitors type, or the // second to hide rich-text editors too. // maskAllInputs: false, // maskAllTyping: true }); </script>Add it to your site
Paste the snippet into the
<head>of every page, as early as you can. The first line defines a small queue, so anyanyreplay(...)call made before the recorder has downloaded is kept and run in order once it arrives.Load a page
Open your site in a browser and click around. The setup page watches for your first event and switches to Connected on its own, usually within seconds.
Watch the session
Open Sessions. The recording appears in the list with its visitor, language, duration, page count and device, and you can filter by errors, rage clicks or a tracked event. Open it to play it back, and use Translate to… in the player to read it in another language.
If nothing arrives
The setup page diagnoses the common failures itself. It can tell whether the snippet was never requested (not on the page, or inside a comment), whether it loaded but sent no events (usually a missing init call or an ad blocker), and whether events were refused because of the domain list, a paused project, the plan limit or your own session cap — each with the fix. The full checklist is in no sessions arriving.
Next steps
- Tag the moments you care about with custom events.
- Attach your own user id with identify.
- Review what is masked in masking and blocking.
- Wait for a cookie banner before recording with consent.
- Invite the people who review sessions with you from Team.
